The Airedale Terrier Club of Metropolitan Washington, DC, Inc.
Specialty Show, April 21, 2006
Lou Swafford
Our Specialty Show held on Friday, the 21st of April 2006 was the last Show of our Club to be held atthe Fairgrounds, in Howard County. Our Club, along with the Columbia Terrier Association, will be moving to the Timonium Fairgrounds, near Baltimore. This move will allow us more space, better lighting, better parking and will not have the restrictions that we had at Howard County. Now back to the Show…
On the Monday before the Show, Russ Hammond got a phone call from the Columbia Terrier Association Show Chairman advising that our Regular Class Judge, Mr. Robert Moore was in the Hospital in Atlanta GA, with heart conditions and would be unable to judge our Specialty. Russ and the Show Chairman of the Columbia Terrier Association looked at the Judges panel and selected a Judge by the name of Mr. Seymour
Weiss to judge the Airedale. End of problem!!! No… On the day of the Show, April 21st, 2006, at 10:00 AM when our Sweepstakes judging was scheduled to begin, our Sweepstake Judge was not in the building. So again, Russ, the Show Superintendent and the AKC Representative came up with a substitute judge and it was our own Corally Burmaster. Now the Show must go on…. Before I go on, I must tell you that our Regular scheduled Sweepstake Judge was to have been Elizabeth Mattison, a most reliable person. She got caught up in accident and could not go forward or backwards. She was not involved in the accident herself, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyhow, she tried to call someone, but had no numbers, except the number of the Fairgrounds. So she called the Fairgrounds and got a recorded message, "Please leave a message and we’ll get back to you." Now on with the Show.
The entry for Sweepstakes was very small this year, only 8 Airedales. However, it was a very nice class and the youngsters preformed very well.
