B-OB Match ACREDALE PARK
June 8, 2003
Lou Swafford
The morning started out very cloudy and it looked like rain. It had been raining for about two weeks before the Match. However, a 40 x 40 foot dry spot was found and the ring set up. Our first scheduled event was Obedience. Can you believe it; no one signed up for Obedience. I think that was the first time I can remember when no one signed up for Obedience.
The conformation Match started at 1:00 PM and we had a nice entry. As I remember, the entry was 7 Airedales. Our Judge was Jim McDermott, who has been a member of ATCMW for many years. Jim picked Gregory and Emma Darling’s dog Adam as Best dog in the Match and picked John and Valeria Rickard’s bitch Haley as Best bitch in Match. Adam was picked as Best in Match.

After the conformation judging, it was time for the Rescue dogs. Tierney (who lives with Pam and David McKusick) was the only Rescue dog shown. Next were dogs doing tricks. As I remember, there were only three dogs doing tricks. Two Airedales, River (owned by Nancy Flowers) and Tavi (owned by Kathy Pickard), and one Border Terrier named Wimsey, owned by our own Lynn Darnell. (Editor’s Note: The July 2003 issue of “Front and Finish” lists Wimsey as the Number 1 Border Terrier in the Nation for Novice AKC Agility, and he is tied with a Welsh Terrier for Number 1 All Terriers doing AKC Agility. Congratulations Lynn and Wimsey!) They all did great, but I have to admit the Border Terrier was terrific. Bill Russell’s Airedale, Jamie, captured the costume contest with his Harley Davidson cap, sunglasses and scarf! Valeria Rickard conducted a microchip clinic again this year.
Following the Match, Nora Dudman had a Picnic set up under the enclosed area. There was good food and lots of it, lots of good fellowship and many, many stories about Airedales--some of which I’m sure were true. And can you believe it, no rain. Our thanks go to all those members who help put on this B-OB Match and the Picnic that followed. These events don’t just happen. It takes good people to put them on.
